Before the beginning
I once read a writer say when she heard a poem or story in her head, she had to chase it and grab it by its tail so not to let it slip away.I love this because it is how I feel about that first spark of inspiration. It being something that is so alive that you must capture it before it escapes, and then coax it into wanting to stay and work with you to create something beautiful. It's that challenge I love.
I don't usually come up with a whole plot outline or a character in depth before I start writing a story. I usually start writing a story because I hear some narration or some dialogue in my head, just a teaser amount that makes me want to find out more about it, and the only way to is to start writing. Then, it's as if that little teaser wraps its fingers around my imagination and won't let go.
I think the beginning is one of the things I love most about writing.
What about you? What do you love most about writing and how would you describe that first spark of inspiration.
